The Renaissance Center Wins Three More Emmy Awards

It’s been another good year at the Emmy Awards for The Renaissance Center. We were nominated in five categories and brought home three statues from the 24th annual Mid-South Regional Emmy Awards, presented Saturday night at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
Tennessee’s Wild Side won an Emmy in the category of Magazine Series/Special Program. Wild Side is produced in partnership with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and is broadcast by all PBS stations in Tennessee and Kentucky.
The Blake McMeans Story was awarded the Emmy for Public Affairs. This powerful documentary tells the story of a promising young tennis player who was brain injured in a drunk driving accident. Today, Blake travels to Tennessee schools where he tries to convince teenagers not to duplicate his mistake. The program was broadcast by all PBS stations in Tennessee with funding from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office.
The project was written and produced by Steve Hall, and shot and co-produced by Barry Cross and Ken Tucker. Ken was also recognized with an Emmy Award for his editing of the documentary.
“The Governor's Highway Safety Office is thrilled for the recognition that has been received by The Blake McMeans Story,” said Kendell Poole, executive director of the GHSO. “This has become a very valuable tool in our fight to save lives on Tennessee's roadways. The work done by Steve Hall and the Renaissance Center in this project has been nothing short of incredible. Of course, we can't forget Blake himself for allowing his story to be shared with thousands of people.”
This brings The Renaissance Center's total number of Emmy Awards to 20 over the past decade with an impressive 62 nominations. This includes 7 Emmys Awards for Tennessee's Wild Side.
